Maine, Here We Come!

After years of planning and months of preparing, True North is finally ready (we hope). She and her crew will set out on her adventure tomorrow morning, Saturday, June 24, 2023.

We will leave Rochester, New York and travel East on Lake Ontario until it feeds the St. Lawrence Seaway at the 1000 Islands archipelago. We will cross into Canada and follow the St. Lawrence all the way to its mouth at the Gaspé Peninsula, passing by Montréal, Québec City, with a stop in the Saguenay Fjord to see whales. Once we exit the Seaway into the Atlantic, we will turn Southeast toward Prince Edward Island. We’ll proceed down the coast of Nova Scotia after a detour into the Bras d’Or Lakes. We’ll cross from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to Bar Harbor, Maine, then work our way “Down East”, that is down the coast of Maine to Portland where we will leave True North for the winter. The entire trip will be about 1,700 nautical miles (almost 2,000 miles or 3,150 kilometers) and take 2-3 months.

    Hi Sandy and Dan,

Enjoy these 3000km on the True North.

Will you ise the same path on your way back?

As you’ll have a stop at Halifax… Did you know that this is where lots of French gold was sent during WWII? See that: Sauvez l’or de la Banque de France ! By JC Trichet.

Hi Thomas, Thanks. No… the currents are too strong on the St. Lawrence. The return to Rochester (next year?) will be up the Hudson River from New York City and through the canals.
