Day 39 – Plan and Prep

Today was planning and prepping for our travels to Nova Scotia. It is exciting to think that we are more than half way through this journey, and that we are about to visit the fifth of Canada’s ten provinces.

It took a while, but Dan, our friends, Jon and Cheri, and I are getting into a cruising rhythm. The lifestyle that has emerged is nomadic, where we sail for a couple of days, explore for a few days, then back to sailing. During the sailing portion, we usually anchor at a gorgeous beach, fishing town or small island at sunset, have a drink to celebrate our successful sail, take a quick shower, make dinner, and go to sleep. Then we get up early, check the weather, the wind, finalize the plan, and get ready to do it all again. After a few days of being on the move, we take a much needed break at some beautiful location that we all wish to explore. During these breaks, we usually dock at a marina, have a proper shower, do some laundry, and re-provision as quickly as possible in order to leave time for getting to know the people, food, history and vibe of the location.

Today was special in that we were invited by our new PEI friend, Bill, ex-mayor, ex-yacht club commodore and current bakery owner, to watch the Summerside Yacht Club’s regatta. It was an absolutely gorgeous night as we took our dinghy, Lil’ North, out at sunset to watch the race. When we came back, we visited the Summerside Yacht Club Tiki Bar which is about 10 yards from our boat, had a beer and said, “Goodbye PEI.” Tomorrow, we pack up our summer bungalows on the water and head to Nova Scotia!

I particularly enjoyed the almost hour-by-hour description of your typical day.

And thanks for the photos. Between the texts and the photos, one can almost imagine being there on True North with you.

    THANKS!
