Day 24 – Back to Nature

We left Quebec City at 5:30AM and motored in the rain and fog to Cap-à-l’Aigle, about 70 nm. Because the ebb current was in our favor, True North was able to reach a record speed over ground of 13 knots averaging about 8 knots for the trip.   At 2:30PM, we arrived at Cap-à-l’Aigle, a key stopover point for boaters on their way to Tadoussac and the Saguenay River.

The best part of this portion of the trip was that zen feeling we got as we transitioned from the city to nature.  We were surrounded by water and waterfalls, trees and beaches, and we could feel our heart rates slow down.  There is not too much to do in Cap-à-l’Aigle, but we did manage a short hike to a couple of beaches and waterfalls.  After our hike, we sat out on a picnic bench at the marina with our friends looking over the St. Lawrence.  We enjoyed our cocktails, reviewed the highlights of the day, planned the next day, and scanned the river for glimpses of whales, dolphins and seals.  While there, we met some other boaters on the same trip as us, excited to be traveling the river and looking forward to seeing lots of whales the next day.
