Day 74 – Port Clyde and Forrest Gump

Another day in paradise. It was sunny and 80º F (27º C) today, as we slowly made our way from Tenants Harbor to Clyde Harbor, another picturesque town on the Penobscot Bay where the lobstermen share the harbor with visitors. We are beginning to take all of this natural beauty and harmony for granted as we make our way to our final destination, Portland. We wish we could bottle it and save it for the cold days of winter.

What makes this town unique is the Marshall Point Lighthouse. In the movie, this is where Forrest Gump ended his eastward run and said, “Better turnaround and just keep on going,” whereby he proceeded to run westward across the country to Monument Valley, Arizona. We were reminded of this epic movie during our visit to this lighthouse.

The other main feature of Port Clyde is its general store. Located on the town wharf, it provides food, supplies and fuel. Its lunch counter is very popular. And it manages a dock and numerous rental mooring balls in the harbor.
