Days 71 & 72 – Camden to Rockland

We spent another day in Camden, enjoying the Labor Day festivities and the non-stop windjammers plying in and out of the harbor, taking tourists on day cruises. The highlight was a very steep hike up Mount Battie with beautiful views of Camden Harbor and the Penobscot Bay.

This late summer / early autumn weather is idyllic with crystal clear blue skies (when it’s not foggy), starry nights, warm days and cool but pleasant nights.

On Monday, we headed out into thick morning fog to make our way to Rockland, just a short hop down the coast, to do some provisioning.

Rockland isn’t as quaint as Camden, but rather a busy working port offering a full gamut of marine services for boaters of all kinds. It attracts cruisers needing fuel, water and provisions and it’s the port for the important Vinalhaven and North Haven ferries, serving residents and lobster fisherman on those two important islands in the middle of the Penobscot Bay.

After a Thai lunch (yes, you read right… one of the only restaurants open on Labor Day), we provisioned onshore, then headed back to relax at our mooring as the sun set.

Happy Labor Day to our American and Canadian friends!
