Day 62 – Should I Stay or Should I Go

In these long cruises, we often face the question, “should we stay or should we go?” During this trip, we have experienced short periods of nice weather bookended by harsh weather including high winds, waves and aggressive storms. So when we are blessed with a favorable weather window, we are faced with the decision of whether to stay and explore or continue to sail. This decision is made more difficult as the summer comes to an end and we all need to get to our final destinations.

This is the situation we face with Bar Harbor. We have been anchored in the harbor for two days. Today, we are mostly sitting in our sailboats waiting out that storm with winds gusting to over thirty knots accompanied by torrential rains. We are somewhat frustrated because we want to experience all of Bar Harbor’s fun activities such as hiking and biking through Acadia National Park, lobster fishing, kayaking, whale watching, excellent shopping and restaurants. However, we know that we have a couple of days of great weather in front of us. So, once again we will need to make the cruiser’s decision of how many days to spend here, and how many to spend sailing to the next location.
